Start with a simple drum pattern. Open your DAW and set a 90 BPM tempo. Lay down a basic kick-snare pattern: kick on beat 1 and 3, snare on 2 and 4. Add a closed hi-hat on eighth notes. That’s your foundation. Now add a melodic element: choose a 4-chord progression (like C-Am-F-G) and play it on a simple synth or pluck sound. Record 8-16 bars of this progression cycling repeatedly.
